Timothy Jones
Timothy Jones is an American pianist recognized for his work as a collaborative artist, chamber musician, and educator. Equally at home in solo, chamber, and collaborative settings, his playing has been praised for its rhythmic vitality, stylistic versatility, and deeply collaborative approach to music-making. Based in Bloomington, Indiana, he maintains an active performing career across instrumental, vocal, and chamber repertoire while working closely with emerging and established artists in conservatory and festival settings.
Timothy holds degrees from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied piano with Marian Hahn and Anton Nel. Additional artistic guidance came through work with Leon Fleisher and Richard Goode. While at Peabody, he was awarded the 2019 Lilian Gutman Memorial Prize in Piano Performance. At UT Austin, he earned both the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Piano Performance before completing the Artist Diploma, becoming only the second pianist in the university’s history admitted to the program for piano.
At the Butler School of Music, Timothy distinguished himself as the first solo pianist to receive the Collaborative Piano Teaching Assistantship and was later appointed Guest Artist Staff Pianist, a role created to support the school’s instrumental and vocal divisions through coachings, lessons, studio classes, juries, competitions, and recitals. His collaborative work spans a broad range of repertoire and performance environments, from standard sonata literature to contemporary music and interdisciplinary projects.
Timothy has performed in venues including Lincoln Center, The Juilliard School, and the Kraków Academy of Music, and has appeared at festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, Chautauqua Institution, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Virtuoso & Belcanto, and Summit Music Festival. As a collaborative pianist, he has worked with faculty and students from institutions including the Peabody Institute, Columbus State University, Georgia State University, the University of Tennessee, the University of Memphis, and the University of Texas at San Antonio. His collaborators have included members of the Chicago, Boston, and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
An active summer artist and teacher, Timothy serves on the faculty of Rocky Ridge Music Center and Cormont Horn Camp, where he collaborates with students and faculty. Beginning in fall of 2026, he will join the faculty of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as Visiting Lecturer in Chamber and Collaborative Music.
