For College Students
We have often heard participants describe a week of camp like a year of music school – there is so much information imparted! Equally important for music students are the connections that are created – meeting and getting to know the faculty and staff, as well as creating bonds with horn players from all over the world! College students have appreciated these horn camp benefits:
- Hearing from a variety of top horn teachers on their playing – it is like having your playing looked at through a kaleidoscope!
- Working closely in small groups and lessons with the faculty at the top of our field
- Getting different perspectives from faculty, staff, and other participants on the many possibilities of careers in music
- Working on solo repertoire and orchestral excerpts with top soloist and orchestral musicians
- A mock audition which provides learning opportunities for those playing and observing
- Creating connections with possible future teachers
- Performing in great ensembles with other students
- Listening and learning from horn players from other institutions
Notes from College Students
“My favorite part about KBHC was access to an endless pool of knowledge. Coming into the camp, I had many anxieties about graduate school applications, orchestra auditions, and what a career in music might look like, and there was always an answer. The faculty and staff were incredibly genuine and dedicated to helping all the students, whether it was with the instrument or personally.”

“For any future campers interested in KBHC, I feel that they should know that the camp is a blank slate in all of the best ways. It’s like a clean slate for horn playing where you can find so many talented instructors and other musicians to learn from and share a passion with. You come in with what experience you have, and you leave with so much more. I’d also like to add that there’s plenty more to do than just playing the horn. It’s a fun time all around.”
