Yu-Hsin Teng

A native of Taiwan, collaborative pianist Yu-Hsin Teng received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Collaborative Piano at the Sarah and Ernest School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin as a student of Colette Valentine, Patti Wolf, Rick Rowley and James Maverick, and currently based in Austin, Texas. She was awarded Butler Excellence Scholarship and Teaching Assistantship at the University of Texas at Austin. She received her Master degree in Collaborative Piano at Boston University. She was Teaching Assistant at Boston University.

She served as piano coach for William Lewis School of Opera’s production of Die Fledermaus, La Périchole and Bulter Opera Center’s productions of L’elisir d’amore and Carmen.  Yu-Hsin had opportunities to perform as a collaborative pianist in the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, playing with young musicians. She won second prize in the Asia Music Competition in Seoul. She has held not only piano recitals but also the concerts and competitions of vocal and instruments collaboration in Taiwan, Italy, and the United State. She was invited to Conservatorio de Brescia and Conservatorio di Musica “F. Morlacchi” di Perugia to perform as choir pianist and collaborative pianist. In the summer of 2019 and 2022, she received a scholarship of Songfest music festival in Los Angeles and San Francisco. She premiered Song Cycle “Love, Loss and Exile” by Juhi Basal at San Francisco Conservatory. She was selected to National Association of Teachers of Singing Intern Program as one of only four collaborative pianists in 2023. She is also active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, performing Texoma NATS High School Vocal Music Fellowships Benefit Recital. In the end of 2023, she was invited to Music On Site as piano coach.

Yu-Hsin is currently Assistant Professor in Texas Lutheran University and Vocal Collaborative Pianist in Texas State University. She is also Teaching Artist in Austin Opera, bring music into schools, perform for Austin Opera events and Choir Pianist in Covenant Presbyterian Church. She is also teaching piano in Redeemer Lutheran School and Elgin School of Music.
