Susan McCullough

Susan McCullough earned her bachelors degree in Horn Performance from Emporia State University in 1975.  She was featured as Principal Horn and soloist with the Air Force Academy Band in Colorado Springs, Colorado from 1975-78, and spent twenty-two years with the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra as 3rd and Principal Horn.  Ms. McCullough is a founding member of The Denver Brass and performed with the Aries Brass Quintet from 1996-2008.  She has been featured as soloist and clinician of horn throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Japan, Costa Rica, Australia and South Africa. In 2003, she had the pleasure of touring the United States as Principal Horn with the Lucerne Festival Strings, a highly esteemed Swiss chamber orchestra.  Ms. McCullough has performed at many Regional and International Horn Symposiums. She has been a featured artist at South African National Symposiums six times since 2006 and has served on the Advisory Council of the International Horn Society from 2008-2014 and 2017 to the present. She has been on faculty for the prestigious Rafael Méndez Brass Institute since 2007 and the Lamont Academy since 2008. Susan can be heard on many CD recordings with The Denver Brass and Aries Brass Quintet as well as her 2008 release of a horn duet CD “It’s All Relative” with her son, Jesse McCormick. A much sought after horn player in the Denver area, she regularly performs with many of Colorado’s top ensembles including the Colorado Symphony, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, the Colorado Ballet, various opera companies and many of the Broadway shows that come to Denver.  Ms. McCullough was Instructor of Horn at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music from 1996 to 2018. Susan was proud to host the 40th International Horn Symposium at the University of Denver in July of 2008.
