Rocio Martinez Acevedo

Rocio Martinez Acevedo is a hornist originally from Caguas, Puerto Rico. She recently earned her Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance from the University of Florida, studying under Dr. Paul Basler. Throughout her time at UF, Rocio was an active performer, playing with ensembles such as the Gator Horn Choir, UF Symphony Orchestra, UF Chamber Orchestra, UF Lab Orchestra, UF Wind Symphony, UF Symphonic Band, UF Brass Band, UF New Music Ensemble, and Jacaré Brazil. Beyond ensemble work, Rocio combines her musical studies with her Puerto Rican heritage, transcribing traditional Latin music for horn and exploring Latin American music and history through academic research.

This fall, Rocio will begin her Master’s in Performance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, studying with Professor Bernhard Scully. As a previous full scholarship recipient at the Kendall Betts Horn Camp, she is thrilled to return for her second year—this time as a staff member.
