Welcome to the Northeast Horn Festival 2011 Homepage

MARCH 18 - 20, 2011, University of New Hampshire School of Music

Please allow me this opportunity to invite you to come to Durham, NH in March for the 2011 Northeast Horn Festival..

I am planning a unique celebration of our instrument with the emphasis on historical performance practice and ensemble performances.  Our featured artists are Hermann Baumann, Lowell Greer, Bernhard Scully and Genghis Barbie.  Noted horn collector, Dick Martz, will be displaying his entire collection, some 63 instruments and you will hear performances of works played on the equipment that the composers would have heard in their time.  Participants who register in advance will have the opportunity to be assigned to an ensemble (not a mass choir) which will be coached by a professional and perform on the final concert. Walk-in participants will be assigned to ensembles assuming there are enough coaches.  There will be a mass choir for those who wish it and last minute attendees.  I am expecting several college horn ensembles and the featured and supporting artists will perform in ensembles as well in the concerts. There will be a history of the horn thread present at all times and participants will be able to try the instruments in Mr. Martz's collection.  We will have the usual solo competitions and there will be a horn quartet competition for high school and college quartets.

I'm expecting many vendors with horns, mouthpieces, recordings, music and horn related merchandise for trial and sale.

Please come back to this site frequently as I will be updating as soon as detailed information is available.  Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions about the festival you may have.

I am looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones at UNH in March!
